Description

These lightweight headphones can follow you easily. You barely feel it when you wear them. The open-back design of the HFI-15G is highly appreciated for mobile applications or as hearing aid for watching TV. This is the smallest headphone of the Ultrasone HFI line, convincing with its pure and spacious sound.

5Still the best portable headphones Ultrasone do!  Sep 11, 2010 By M. Scarlett "fakeheadphones"
Regardless of the reviews of the Zino's and iCans (which I also own) the HFI-15g headphones are still the best portable headphones Ultrasone make. As I currently own 8 pairs of Ultrasone's I do consider myself a fan of Ultrasone headphones.

Comfort.

The HFi-15g headphones still remain 'The' most comfortable headphones in my sub 80 headphone collection. If you're asking the Roland RH50 and Denon AH-D1001 are also up there. You can spend hours with these without a hint of discomfort of fatigue.

Sound

It has to be said that most Ultrasone's really do need a bit of an extra boost from a headphone amp, and the 15g's are no different. Don't go mad, a little Fiio E3 or E5 should do the job. Just don't expect fireworks if you're using the 15g are without an amp if you have an ipod. If you've got an iaudio then you'll have enough volume to power these well. I've currently got my 15g's on and plugged straight into my iMac (no amp) and with some tracks, I could do with a touch more ... oomph.

I also have the Sennheiser HD238, AKG K450 and Jays c-jays. All are very good at their own thing, but somehow the 15g's simply master everything well. The bass is weighty enough to get by, but unlike the Zino's, the bass is so much better defined than the muddy and bloated bass of the 40mm drivers of the Zino's.

I'm not going to say that the top end is as sharp as the iCans, but the 15g's don't suffer from the recessed midrange issue that the iCans suffer from.

What the 15g do suffer from is the looks. I can see why most will go for the Zino's and iCans and overlook the 15g's, but believe me; you'll be doing yourself a great disservice. If you want to be flash then by all means go for the Zino's, or the better (IMHO) Nuforce UF30 headphones. If you're serious about your music, then you'll give the Zino's a wide birth and go for the HFi-15g headphones.

Another.... slight issue is the build. Unfortunately, the 15g's don't feel as sturdy as the Zino's. However its function over form, and as I said before, if you simply want to look flash instead of being serious about your music, then these aren't for you.

So out of the big four (Sennheiser, AKG, Jays Ultrasone) where do the 15g's come. That depends on you.

K450's: Bass
C-Jay: Mids
HD238: Treble

15g's: All of the above!

I can't recommend these enough. But look after them; don't sit on them or anything!

5Awesome!  Mar 16, 2011 By Henri Roger Savin
I already own a bigger/older Ultrasone headphone DVD700 (over the ears) since 2006.
I was already amazed with the quality of the sound coming out of these headphones. However, the bulk and weight makes it quite uncomfortable after a while.
These new headphones are everything I could have wished for, considering that the look is absolutely unimportant for me.
I had a demo CD provided with my older set and I used it to verify the spacialization of this set and it is as good and comfortable as one could wish for. It sounds like you are in the room with the musicians, not listening to a headphone. It is specifically true with the demo CD, less for every day music.
When compared to high end headphones/earphones, this one demonstrate its very high sound quality.

Pros: Best headphones for less than 100$.
Sound quality is amazing.
Very light and comfortable.

Cons:
No sound isolation, in or out.
Not very powerful when connected to a portable MP3 player. Still, there is enough to make you deaf if you really wish to.
