| | Description | The FireStudio Mobile is a ten-input, six-output professional recording system that combines two PreSonus XMAX Class A microphone preamplifiers; six line-level, analog input channels; S/PDIF digital input and output; MIDI I/O; and headphone monitoring with separate gain control. The FireStudio Mobile beats any and all competition when it comes to flexibility and input count. You can record a whole band with the FireStudio Mobile. The FireStudio Mobile is bundled with PreSonus Studio One Artist, our groundbreaking music creation program, and over 4 GB of virtual instruments, plug-ins, loops, and samples to get you started making music immediately. Here's a dirty little secret: bus-powered mobile interfaces from other manufacturers deliver much less than the full 48 volts of phantom power that is specified by microphone manufacturers. This means even the finest condenser microphone can't work at optimal internal gain levels, potentially compromising sound quality even before the signal gets to the mic preamp! PreSonus president Jim Odom and his team of engineers went the extra mile and created an 'internal switching power plant' that lets the FireStudio Mobile convert computer bus power into a full 48 volts of phantom power, as well delivering 30 volts to power the superb mic preamps you'll read about next. | |

Good but noisy pre-amp Nov 04, 2009
By Jeffrey D. Doan I have had this one for 3 weeks now, and have been using it for recording since. I'm using it to replace the Mackie Onyx Satellite I have (which doesn't work with Win Vista) in my home studio.
The first thing I "must" notice was the 4 rubber feet at the bottom of the unit keep coming loose. Presonus didn't do a very good job gluing these to the unit. I got tired of sticking them back on and just leave them off, but that's harmless. Maybe my unit is a pre-release unit or something, cuz I got it 1 week before the supposedly release date of 10/22.
The second issue is the noise I got when plugging my condenser directly into the Mic/Inst 1 (and use the 48V provided by the unit). Quite a bit of noise at 1/2 of the knob. I ended up turning the gain on Mic/Inst1 down to minimum, and have my condenser go to a Studio Projects VTB1 pre-amp instead. WIth this setting, I could crank up the VTB1's Input Gain to 40/60, and Output Level to max (12), while leaving the Mobile's Input Gain at just 1 click above the minimum. I now have no noise on the line. So the preamp on the Mobile is very noisy. I'm using an AKG C414B condenser as my primary mic.
There is no issue with the software driver. Presonus is always good at staying on top with their drivers. Installation is easy. The Firewire connection is very reliable.
The bundled StudioOne software seems very easy to use. But I'm not using it as I already have Cubase 4.5. It's probably just a good starting out software, just like Cubase LE.
I would recommend upgrading your PC should you have anything slower than 2.4GHz. When the CPU is too slow, you're gonna get pops and clicks in your recording, and that usually is not the Audio Interface box's fault. In my case, I have an over-clock i7 Quad Core CPU.
Based on my past experience with Presonus interface (I had a Firepod in the past), Presonus stuff are reliable, their preamp is probably a little noisy, though.

Excellent price for value and excellent support Apr 15, 2010

"A. Human Being"
Seemed like a great value proposition compared to other brands. So I got it. They forgot to send the disc for studio one, and Presonus not only (over the weekend) sent me the a a product key for using the download but immediately sent me me a new disc. Their product support has been as good as I have ever seen. It is very easy to use and sounds great. So far no problems at all. Studio One is easy enough to learn and while I'm not doing anything tricky at this point (importing old 4-tracks) it has plenty of typical "presets" to get you started with typical tasks you can modify to suit your needs while learning.

FireBox User for 3 years Dec 06, 2011
By muttonchops
"Fortune Favors the Brave"
Presonus retired the FireBox which I have used in my home studio for about 3 years. This FireStudio mobile is pretty much the same thing.
+ The sound quality from this unit is good. + The preamps are also good. + The phantom power works and I have used my Rode NT1A with this without a problem. + Chassis is made of metal
- The knobs are flimsy - The FireWire connector(s) are easy to break. One of the ports on my FireBox broke. I have no idea how. - The headphone out is dodgy and needs to be hit/screwed/twisted to get an even signal. - Connectivity can get lost easily and that might ruin a recording session. use the power supply it comes with.
I have had a LOT of trouble using this FireWire interface on my Dual Core Windows machine. A major pain in the @$$. The connection gets lost often. I dont why it is. it could be driver issues or power issues as I've mostly used it on bus-power.
I bought this for about $250 and have tried to use it as much as I could. It has worked reasonably well.
The preamps are good. Clean and airy and you get 20db of headroom.
There might be better products out there but I'm not sure which ones those are as this is the only preamp/audio interface I have ever owned.
The preamps/lineouts are good. I've recorded a live show via line out and it sounds like a super high quality studio recording.
One small issue I'm facing is sometimes when I track guitars direct in with a metronome i hear the click of the metronome in the guitar track. I don't know why I'm still investigating so it may not be the unit's problem.

Good Product Bad Software Install for Mac Nov 23, 2011
By Sonny This review outlines the shops efficiency and service. In this instance Andertons UK advertised at a very good price including free delivery. They sent it `Next Day' delivery which is when it arrived. Andertons UK certainly cannot help with the product software - so its not their fault. As a piece of hardware it will interface with a computer - tried it on my Mac and sound comes through!
The software that comes with the product is Studio One Artist. It is over a week now from buying the product and like many people before me bought this and the pro version have had problems installing the software. The PreSonus UK Distributor failed to answer requests for help. The USA PreSonus Technical Help took 7 days to come back with an answer.
The problem initially was that the DVD program would not run on my Mac but only on Windows. The solution is to download directly from PreSonus. Just when I thought I was nearing the end for installation, I find that the Mac does not install this automatically. Laboriously, 15 items have to be unpacked and installed. Then, within Studio One, each of the items have to be pointed to, to get them to play together. And just as you lose the will to live, you find that the so-called `Third-party' software requires you to go to their sites, create an account, wait for e-mail password, login to your new account, put in your computer name, wait for a product key by email, take the product key and feed it into the software. After all this the third-party software still doesn't talk to studio one. After more than one week the software still doesn't work as meant to and I have one piece of software with a missing key resulting in 2 requests for help with so called third-party software companies. I work in the music industry, I also have a fair amount of computer experience and quite clearly PreSonus shows poor communication both in Help Desk and in PDF's when explaining how to make their product software work. PreSonus's answer to questions about third-party software problems by saying that 3rd Party will deal with it, even though it is included in their package. Unfortunately one of the main characteristics of IT people is the failure to communicate clearly to `the man in the street' case in point. I certainly would not buy the software on health grounds!

I am using it and... May 12, 2011
By J. Santos ... it's working quite well. But for months at the beginning it would disconnect itself and I was forced to reboot to make it work (I use it with a IMAC).
