BUY IT, NOW! Jul 09, 2010 if your considering, dont wait, BUY IT now, i am using it now and it went above and beyond what i was expecting (even after goofing around with it at my friends, with my drum mics that add up to about maybe 400 dollars alltogether i can record amazing AMAZING studio quality drums... that i am more then satisfied with.. plus i have the control.
the pres ROCK they have such a crisp beautiful sound, just stop reading this and buy it.
Can you believe it... Feb 18, 2010 An 8 channel (OK so really it's 10 channel but 8 XLRs!!!) direct to digital firewire product for under $600? Oh yeah and it's truly latency free with a good computer. I use it with my Mac G5 and have had tremendous success in making this work extremely well with the supplied software (Studio One) although you do have to have some technical aptitude to use it because it's really not as easy as Garage Band... Although I do read online that people are using it with GB and not having any issues. I just preferred to have the use of all the extra's given (Guitar Rig, Kore,...) and the automated mixing, saving of various set-ups, on and on... regardless of software. The unit is very nicely designed, lightweight, easy to see and easily learned. All in all, a nice looking product that works very well too. And I can't complain about the price plus it includes all the software and a firewire cable! Thanks PreSonus!

Do Not Buy. Feb 11, 2010 PreSonus lies. the interface itself seems pretty good, but it did not come with Cubase or any of the other software they advertise. There's another comment saying they didn't get cubase either, so they apparently just stopped including it, even though they haven't changed the description. I guess i'll have to spend another 200 bucks for a DAW. Also, the interface has no -20db pad, which is really helpful especially for recording drums. 500 bucks, definitely not worth it

Good with Vista, bad with Windows 7 (64 bit) Jan 02, 2010 With very little difficulty, I got the Firestudio Project to function with Windows Vista, but when I tried to move it over to a new computer that came loaded with Windows 7 (64 bit), I couldn't get it to operate or even be recognized (no blue LED). I tried the Beta driver but no-go..... The Universal panel partially opens (some options can be changed, others are empty). The mixer panel never opened.
I sent an e-mail message to product support about a week ago but have received nothing back, despite their claim that they usually respond within 48 hours. It's been more than that, even considering a weekend and holiday have gone by.
Too bad. It is a fine product if you have a system it will work with!

Windows 7 works for me Dec 30, 2009 I wrote a comment on another review to try and help another Windows 7 user, but I've had a great experience with the firestudio project and wanted to ensure the right information was in the forefront. I'll repost some of that comment here.
I bought one of these because I wanted to do some multi-track recording and mixing on my PC. I have Windows 7 on my machine and used the beta software and followed the instructions on the presonus website. I wasn't able to use the universal controller at first but everything else worked great.
Reaper and FLStudio both worked with multi-track recording and I was able to test out each channel.
To get the universal controller working properly I had to change my firewire driver in Windows 7 to the legacy driver through device manager and then update the firmware through the universal controller. Once that was complete I was able to change my firewire driver back and the device works perfectly including the universal controller.
The included Studio One software is great too and has a ton of effects, etc.
