4Amazing!  Apr 03, 2007 By Dave A. Meyer
I was a bit skeptical about actually mixing on a computer, but must say this delivers!! The Torq LE is a simple to use, and learn, program. The mixer does a great job, with a couple of exceptions. First, there should be kills on the EQ's and the headphone monitoring needs to be better thought out. You basically have to connect to 2 external audio outputs to hear the main mix and the monitor mix. I believe a simple headphone jack on the mixer itself would have been a great idea. Of course, since this is a MIDI controller, and not an actual mixer, I don't know the ramifications and troubles with doing that. Those are the 2 reasons I was not able to give this 5 stars. Overall, I think its a great product and for the price - its awesome!

5For those looking into learning how to mix  Jul 20, 2008 By W Jones
First off I was a huge fan of Trance music and I really wanted to get into mixing and making my own cd's. However, I had no idea where to start and how much money it was going to cost. After months of research I came across this beauty. The M-audio Mixlab was the best thing I could have purchased with my experience mixing (little to none) and my budget (fairly low). The software that it comes with (Torq LE) is a slimmed down version of the real thing but for where I was it was perfect. The mixer is also a slimmed down version of bigger, more complicated hardware. However, dont let the look of it throw you off, it has everything you need to get started and much more. This whole set is perfect for if you want to learn (or even just see if you want to get deeper into Djing)

Note: I had to buy a new audio interface (Numark DJ Io) and a pair of monitor speakers (M-audio audiophile Av 30) to fully appreciate what I could do. If you have a one channel soundcard on your PC then you wont be able to cue you mixes. It applies to every other dj equipment you may buy

3ran fine on mac... windows problems...  Jan 22, 2010 By T. Kawahigashi "a sleepy asian"
So, I needed a USB controller for an event that I was playing at. Now I'm no expert, heck this was my official first event. Now I ended up going to the event with my Macbook rather then my PC (i don't need to be portable, I need a newer laptop since my macbook is a bit slow...) and it ran flawlessly, i figured most things out on my own and the event besides the fact that i was limited by the macbook on hardware (hard drive space) went smoothly. Now running on my macbook the entire time i saw the cursor with the load sign, the colorful circle thing. it would lag loading my music, and the library system was a bit confusing but i figure the lag made it fustrating, now this could be due to poorly written software or my hardware. i figure it's mainly my hardware.

now originally i had this plugged in to my PC running win7 and it ran flawlessly. Now I had to reboot for some other reason and that's when things went south. my event was 6 hrs away and the software stopped working. no audio signal what so ever, now itunes, wmp, vlc, firefox, windows itself, all the sounds worked. drivers are updated, everything is updated. and it was working fine, i uninstalled and rebooted, reinstalled. same thing. since i have no idea why it stopped working (and restore doesn't work for some odd reason the computer can't restore to the previous state) i'm stuck with this. it worked great with my macbook but i bought it for my pc and now... it's just a flat disappointment.

it does as advertised, can i recommend it? hmmm... yes, because it's a great deal and when the software works things go smoothly and it's supposed to be compatiable with other stuff (which i tried but i just didn't have enough time to get it all figured out, again i'm new to this)

oh yeah i used the splitter that it came with (since i don't have dual audio out) and one end i used my headphones, and the other i put a three way splitter and plugged in 3 speaker systems. worked like a charm.

amazon did a great job with shipping and handling, i ordered on dec 29th and got it 31st wit the 2 day shipping... jus like advertised.

4Great for a first time DJ  Oct 14, 2009 By Stefan A. Panson
I've had this mixer for about a year and have DJ'd at a couple parties with it and it works very well for the price. There are a few issues with it, but you can work around most of them.

First, the most important thing is being able to cue up the music with headphones. In order to avoid buying a new soundcard with two outputs, you can set the headphone output to the left channel and the master output to the right, then buy a "stereo to mono" splitter to split the two channels, then you buy two "mono to stereo" adapters to turn each channel into a full channel....I know it sounds dumb, but it works perfectly.

There are a few other issues including the fact that it doesn't light up, so its hard to see in dark parties and it doesn't have as many sound effects as other mixers, but for $100 you can't beat this software and mixer combination.

It's served me well for a year and has gotten me addicted to DJing, I'm now upgrading to the Torq Xponent, its a lot more expensive, but offers many more features.

3BAD NEWS  Mar 26, 2010 By C.J,
Bad news: The software is old and outdated. It will not work propperly with anything other than windows xp. I called to see if there was an update (there wasn't). I was told I could buy the main software (the one for real D.J.s) for $300. It was also meant to work with vista (not very well I am afraid)and don't even think to try it on windows 7.
The good news is the M-audio pad is universal and will work with any software. You just have to find it.
