One Big Woofer Jan 19, 2011
By T. Z. Garton
"eieio"
I bought this as an accompaniment to the M-Audio BX5a 5-inch BiAmplified Studio Monitor Speakers I use on my Mac (video editing). I wasn't getting that low frequency feedback I desired so I decided this might do the trick.
Trick it did and then some.
Be warned...this woofer is huge! and heavy. It's about half the size of a small washing machine and weighs in around 35lbs.
The instructions say never to place a subwoofer on a table or stereo stand but to find a sweet spot on the floor. As placing the item on the floor would have presented a significant tripping hazard I placed it on Auralex SubDude Subwoofer Isolation Riser, on my desk, and it woofs just fine.
This is bad boy. It will shatter windows and peel paint -- It will rattle houses and wake neighbors. But, if you're looking for that full bass sound this is your instrument.

good for listening Jan 20, 2011
By Dr. Willis Bought these to complement a pair of M Audio BX5A monitors as a bedroom listening system.
A great setup for me to listen to music. To produce music however I would stick to full range monitors unless you can get perfect placement and professionally metered calibration. For a bedroom system this is a bargain! I'd consider this reasonable for an entertainment PC too.
Features: Variable crossover works well, input level adjust is wide enough and I keep it down compared to the monitors. The foot pedal cutout/bypass is very nicely implemented in that it routes full range to the monitors when disabled and doesn't make a significant pop or click when toggled. If my kid is asleep in the room next door I just tap the pedal and no more boom, so easy. This would probably work well for apartment dwellers too.
Sound: Very good for listening 40-105ish db spl. Haven't found any fault with the amp, no static or hum. Default level is high, I wonder if it's matched to the bx8a which I don't have access to. Of course my placement is important here.
Setup: Good sized house, acoustically insulated walls, double pane windows. The room it's in has bare walls, hardwood floors, bare ceilings, 20x30', sub is placed about 1/3 down one of the long walls, bx5a's are placed on a dresser at 1/3 and 2/3 down the same long wall with tweeters at ear level when I'm lounging on my bed. The sub is on its bundled feet with about 30lbs of sandbag on top (which I use for yoga so they're in the room anyways, might as well pin the sub down).
I'm feeding the M Audio trio via TRS cabling from a little mixer that is fed by a squeezebox, a bluetooth stereo receiver and line feeds for laptops/ipods. Convenient not having to switch sources and to just have the laptop hop on wirelessly while lounging. Bx5A's set to half volume, sub set to one third.
Getting what you want! Sep 05, 2011
By CarlosJ The SBX10 delivers on its promise with plenty of deep, clean bass response, more than enough audio punch and very high quality construction. It definitely holds its place alongside the competition!
Excellent Subwoofer Jun 18, 2011

I purchased this baby a few months ago from Amazon to accompany my small, but reasonably powerful M-Audio AV40's. I produce music at home, but wasn't satisfied with the low-end on the AV 40's, they simply won't give you that lower spectrum. This woofer is accurate, and tight! The bass is full and it gives you a decent balance throughout the 20hz to 200hz range.
The adjustable cut-off, phase switch and cut-off pedal make this a very convenient purchase. Once you find the right spot in the room, you're set.
Those producers who are serious about your work, please make sure your mixing room is adequately treated acoustically to get an accurate reference from this beast!
How did I live without this? Apr 06, 2011

I've been scraping by with the BX5a studio monitors for a little over a year now and they do sound great as stand alone monitors (much better for listening to music than most other stereos), but now that I've added this Sub my house (yes my whole house) sounds like some sort of club - I didn't know songs could thump like this on equipment I own. It isn't muddy it has a very crisp bass response. Set up and hook up is easy, plug it in, hook up your cables to the input and monitors to the output and that's it. If you've been wanting a sub for a small studio or just a bad mutha of a sound system look no further this will complete it.
