| | Description | Bring your MIDI gear into the wireless age with the MidAir system. Comprised of a portable transmitter and receiver, the MidAir allows you to wirelessly transmit data from any device that outputs MIDI data--keyboards, drum machines, electronic drums and more. Just plug the battery-powered transmitter into the MIDI Out port on your controller of choice and connect the receiver to the MIDI In port on the device you'd like to control, and you're set. As a 2.4 GHz wireless device, the MidAir enables you to interface MIDI hardware at distances up to 30 feet with the same feel and response as a wired unit. The MidAir receiver includes a USB port and functions as class-compliant 1 x 1 MIDI interface, so you can also wirelessly control soft synths from your favorite MIDI controller. | |

Does NOT live up to its claims. May 23, 2010
By Richard Tancredi I bought it for my Roland AX7 and I couldnt get more then 5-7 feet without drop outs. Maybe if your just transmitting note on note off and velocity commands from 4 feet its good but lets face it...why would you need a wireless for that??? You need a wireless so you can roam around the stage with a keytar. Then you try to take a solo (playing a lot of notes) using pitch bend and Mod wheel and the signal skips out on ya and you look like a fool...(more so then just by playing a keytar..HAHA...but seriously I stopped using it and went back to using a 15 foot midi cable. The batteries were ALWAYS dieing half way thru the gig anyway.

MidiAir Wireless Reception Problems Mar 04, 2011
By R. Bertucci
"rbr2c"
I own this unit and like many other attempted to use it on stage for a gig. During sound check it dropped notes. Fearing the worst I switched back to a 20' quality MIDI cable I(all pins wired and 100% Shielded). In my home studio it went about 30' but on stage in the presence of wireless gtrs/basses/mics/and our wireless digital 2.4Ghz mixing/monitor console it went about 4 feet before dropouts. The unit has low latency and is playable when functioning. I suspect the antenna system is inadequate. Mine is out of warranty so I will attempt to improve the antenna system on the sending unit and the receiver by mounting external antennas. I am a wireless certified technician so don't work on your own MIDIAir in warranty unless you are certain of what you are doing ans how to do it. If this works I'll update this review and notify the manufacturer of my mods and applicable patents pending!
I really need a reliable long distance wireless in an affordable price range. There are other more expensive units that work extremely well in the $600-$3000 price range. I think this unit is designed for MIDI controllers sitting on a desktop in a recording studio/home studio environment in close proximity to the RX or across the room etc.

Great Tool May 17, 2010
By R. Garcia Nice tool to have when performing live. Worked great on our strap on keyboard. Only negative is it drained battery pretty quick.

for live performances this is junk Jan 18, 2010
By Nicholas Franceschina I have a Roland AX-7 "keytar" and I was tired of being tied to my midi cable on stage... so I bought this unit to try out. In a noisy environment (RF noise) I could barely get 5feet away from the receiver before it was dropping out... which is pretty much worthless. I returned it the next day.
such is the way with wireless units of all kinds... you get what you pay for

Great for what I needed it for Nov 18, 2008

I purchased this item to drive a vocal processor from my keyboard to the sound board. Published range is about 30 feet and for our kit, that was fine. Worked right out of the box! Good item for the money!
