 emu xmidi 2x2 and yamaha Feb 10, 2010

This device was not succesful in connecting a Yamaha CVP 103 to computer. Most peculiarly, it works with other MIDI data feeds. With the Yamaha, it failed to transmit notes above a moderate tempo and left hung notes resulting in cacaphony. There is some comment on the web of problems with Yamaha and this interface but I am puzzled how a MIDI data stream would work from one input device and not another.

Alas, the demise of E-mu, one of the most innovative electronic instrument manufactures of all time! Now sadly absorbed and 'disappeared' by Creative.
But this little piece of kit ... first bundled with Emulator X2 sampling software as a hardware 'dongle' ... is fantastic. I've had one for years and when my very expensive Mackie Controller Universal Pro's internal USB midi connection kept falling out of sync or getting lost somehow in Windows XP, I plugged its regular midi connections into this little box and have never had a glitch since. There are a lot of devices out there similar to this one, but this one is the best in my opinion. They also have a 1x1 box, but for the little extra money, having the 2nd midi port is well worth it. I use one (along with a MOTU Midi Timepiece AV Parallel) in my studio ... and bought this second one for my laptop.
Good Interface for the Money - PLUS Solving the Proteus VX Problem Mar 13, 2011

I bought the version of this interface that shipped with the Proteus X2 software synthesizer. The X2 was virtually rendered obsolete when Emu decided to make the Proteus VX version of the software available for a free download. By the way, before you buy this item, make sure you check out all the similar items. This interface has apparently shipped under different stock numbers and appears to be available at widely varying prices. Get the lowest priced one you can find.
Some people say that that this interface doesn't work with Windows 7. I run Windows 7 64 bit, and it works. You may need to update your drivers. I forget whether it works with the Mac OS-X or not.
When this shipped with the Proteus X2, the midi interface worked as a dongle, and Proteus X2 could only work with the interface connected. The free Proteus VX software doesn't have the same limitation. The VX does have a limitation that it cannot stream samples from disk, but with the memory in today's computers, that's not much of a problem. A lot of users are having problems running the Composer soundbank with Proteus VX, especially on Windows 7. If Proteus VX doesn't recognize your composer sound bank, re-download the composer soundbank and save it to a new file folder all by itself. Right-click on the exb soundbank file then "open with" Proteus VX. You may need to shift click to run as administrator.

Bought it to run an old Roland MT-32 -- the MIDI signal runs too fast. Placement of connectors is awkward.
