 works in windows 7 64-bit. low latency. good sound. some driver hassle. Jan 20, 2011

One complaint: ASIO low latency (<5ms) has dropouts when at 44.1khz. Perfect at 48khz. Regular playback (non-ASIO apps) is fine at 44.1khz. Audio and MIDI latency is very low (definitely <10ms total). Sound quality is nice. I can independently mute speakers and headphone. The headphone amp and its volume control is nice.
When powering off the external breakout box after hibernating the computer, I have to toggle the power on the box twice before the included mixer software recognizes its presence (no sound until then). No big deal
I should also rate it 4/5 due to the annoyance of installing the Windows 7 x64 drivers properly. Driver hassle details:
The drivers on the CD work fine. Unfortunately, I went directly to their out of date website to find drivers, thinking they'd be more recent. I tried several versions from EMU and Creative Labs, with no success.
I had kxProject (freeware SB Live) drivers that I had to uninstall first.
I had to remove my SB Live card.
I had to remove the PCIE 1616m card (actually, it's 1212 or 1010, whatever), boot Windows, power off, reinsert the PCIE card.
After that, installing drivers from the included CD worked fine.
I was able to continue to use my SB Live w/ kxProject drivers for MIDI in/out for a few days until a regular MIDI cable arrived. I just had to tell the kxProject "no" for the PCIE card and yes for the actual SB Live.

My experience with Creative Labs, over the years, has been excellent, however this unit arrived DOA. After three days of trying to fix it I determined that the card was inoperative. I contacted the vendor and returned it in exchange for another product.
