Preamp Problem Oct 21, 2010
By dialaball This is a great product for the price and I did a lot of research before buying it. But I'm giving this product a 4 star just because of 1 thing: Phantom power supply on this unit is garbage. I bought audiotechnica AT2035 condenser microphone to use with this unit and there was a lot of crackling/popping. I contacted customer service and they asked me to do some usual stuffs (check driver version, try moving away from interference, swap cables blah blah etc.). I bought an external Nady phantom power supply for $20 and turned off the phantom power supply on the EMU unit and now it works perfectly. No crackling/popping sounds. Other than that, setup is not straightforward for novice people like me, since you have to go to the control panel manually and then choose the sound input/output for this unit manually. I wish the installation process would give that option and enable the unit automatically. I wasted some time trying to figure it out and it wasn't so clear on the instruction manual. The software that comes with the unit is great and you can start recording (if you are using for that) right away. I specially liked the Sonar Software that came with it. I've been using it for about a month now and seems very powerful. Cubase was also good, but I personally liked Sonar. You can also play with patchmix DSP to get desired effects on your inputs and outputs. Patchmix documentation is pretty good and if you read through it, you'll be able to add/remove effects in no time.

E-MU 1616m, The best entry level DAC on the market! May 17, 2010
By J. Kurek The E-MU 1616M PCIe Digital Audio System is by far the best entry level DAC on the market. I say entry level only because the break out box is limited in what you can plug into it. The sound quality of the card how ever is top of the line! if you are just starting up a home studio and are limited on funds, the E-MU 1616M is the way to go for sure. All you need is the E-MU 1616M, decent studio monitors, and a few midi/rack equipment and you are golden.
if had mine for about 2 months or so and it is one of the besst invesments iv made. highly recomended.
Just dies May 10, 2012
By J. Edward McDaniel I haven't had this unit for very long. I had problems getting it to work. The patch software is complicated. Then it just started locking up the computer. I'm staring at it wondering how to replace it. get another one and write it off as a cost of production or move to something else.
Can't Beat It... Apr 17, 2012
By Smokey Haze The pre's and phantom power are nothing to write home about. But that's alright because the converters will smoke anything else but those costing thousands of dollars. Even the Lynx cards converters are rated less. Still don't know how EMU pulled that off but you'd have to literally spend several thousand dollars to beat it in regard to the converters. Bottom line is it's a no brainer if you're coming at if from that angle. And Patchmix is the bomb. Once you begin to wrap your head around it, you begin to see just how flexible and powerful it is for endless routing configurations. Hands down more flexible and capable than any other software mixer I've ever used.
