One of the best monitors I've ever used, at any price Aug 28, 2011

I had a shootout with the DSM1's, DSM2's, and DSM3's. To my surprise, the DSM1's completely stole the show. I was ready to buy the 3's, and was happy to save money for a better sounding set of monitors. These honestly slaughter any monitors I've ever tried that are anywhere near this price range, as they originally went for $1300 a pair! They're end of life (which is why people are blowing them out right now) so grab em while you can.

Although DSM1s are sold as semi-near-field studio monitors, I'm using them in my living room. They sound great on top of my bookshelves with a bit of 220 Hz. and mid-range cut switched in to compensate for placement.
As part of a remodel, I planned to replace my Yamaha AV receiver and Advent Legacy speakers in the living room with a pair of powered speakers driven by a TOSLINK cable from a PC in the nearby kitchen. The DSM1 with its digital input and DSP-based crossover/EQ is a perfect choice, although I needed a converter to adapt the DSM1's coax S/PDIF input to my optical cable. The sound is very clean and transparent compared to the somewhat tubby Legacies.
