3firewire issues  Dec 18, 2008 By Dale T. Angell
I'm an M box nut, I have all of them as we use them at work. Let me start with the good stuff. Pro Tools is great. There are many good recording softwares out there, but Pro Tools is the oldest, most used professionally, best known system out there. I just mixed a Dolby 5.1 film at Sony's Columbia studios in a multi million dollar Pro Tools HD stage from soundtracks I edited right here in my living room, on the computer I'm writing this on, using an Mbox and Pro Tools LE software.

The bad stuff: Pro Tools is professional software, you are going to find functions you will never use if you are just looking for a home studio setup. The software can be a little confusing to people who haven't used mixing systems or other digital audio workstations. But it can be mastered quickly and is simple and very fast to use once you understand it.

Pro Tools software always lags behind operating system upgrades. If you buy Pro Tools, make sure it will run on your operating system, and once you have Pro Tools working, don't upgrade your operating system until Digidesign blesses it. And that may take six months to a year.

The M box 2 pro is the top of the line M box, and while it has some great IO and 96k sample rate, the interface is firewire, not USB as with the other M boxes. And this gives me fits. We do video, and edit from firewire drives and firewire video IO, so adding a firewire audio IO to the mix kills the whole thing. I've even had problems using the Pro with a firewire drive. It's a great M box, for recording to your hard drive.

5Mbox is king!  Oct 25, 2011 By PMme
I've had this for over a year, among other equipment I bought off Amazon. It works excellently and I value it so much. The price was right too. It came with an iLok and a factory bundle. Seriously, if you want to buy stuff you can rely on, try Amazon. You've got all these reviews to help you decide on a product and Amazon gives great service. I'm so glad I bought this and many other things from them.
