This is an excellent program which has some incredible, incredible sounds. I have unfortunately never had the pleasure of messing around with an original ARP, but this thing sounds amazing. As the reviewer before me stated, you can save any sound patch you make. Words cannot describe how excellent this feature is. As far as programming, you have access to unlimited patch chords, and there are plenty of factory settings to explore also. I have a Behringer BCR2000 rotary controller, which is solid nobs (32 to be exact) so I get to tweak it hands on instead of with the mouse, which I would heavily recommend doing. If you need a classic sound, it doesn't get any more classic than this. It's very simple to use, as long as you have some experience in programming synths. I really enjoy this, and would recommed it. I'm using an OSX mac, and this rocks on it.

Close to the real deal. Aug 18, 2006
By Heavy Theta One of the most sought after vintage synths is the ARP 2600. But finding one in decent shape for less than an arm and a leg is getting pretty tough. This bit of software seemed to have magically appeared out of nowhere and has garnered universal acclaim, including from the old ARP honchos responsible for the original. The one disadvantage is that you lose the distinct pleasure of getting in and twisting all those knobs and plugging in the patchcords. (You still do this onscreen with the TimewARP, it just doesn't have the same visceral satisfaction.) However, there are three great advantages to the software:
1. Once you come up with a great patch, you can save it. This is no small benefit over the original analogs.
2. You can play it polyphonically, if you have enough cpu (which I'm kinda pushing the edge at on my laptop).
3. There's no maintenance issue.
What is at issue is TimewARP's promise to make available a new collection of patches, which some of us have been waiting for for a while. The Arturia version of the 2600 may not be as accurate, but, man, do they have some good patches. But if you like to do things from scratch, this is the way to go.
