2Not a good value!  Jul 20, 2010
I was totally excited to hear these as soon as I got them from all the good reviews I have heard. Before I ordered these I was listening to my dads Audio Technica ATH AD700 and thought they were amazing and was expecting better sound then those speaking that these HD 595's cost 100 dollars more.

I was disappointed, the sound stage sounded smaller and throughout the range sounded like they were slightly less detailed then the AD700's. I started testing them for a while and just confirmed further more that they did not sound quite as good as the AD700 that again cost 100 dollars less. I ended up returning these headphones and ordered a sealed back headphone ( lots of road noise where I live ) the Audio Technica ATH-M50s. I ordered these because I liked the ATH-AD700 and figured these would sound just as good. I was right! these headphones sound slightly better then the AD700's in my opinion .

In summery don't waste 100 dollars on these just buy the AD700 if you want open back or if you need sealed back get the ATH-M50

I am sure others will disagree with me and thats fine since music quality is partially in the taste of the owner but I like my choice.

5Wonderful Ear Candy  Jul 13, 2010
In a world diluted by Skullcandy and generic Bose headsets, Sennheiser creates one hell of a headphone for a mere 200 bucks. The sound quality is great, albeit mildly quiet. The real bonus to the set is the bass, which is always clear and sounds remarkable. They fit well and are comfortable for a long stint of listening or just relaxing. They are not as ground breaking as some of the pricier sets, but for the price range, you cannot go wrong. Perfect for entry audio-philes and mid range audiophiles alike.

3Too quiet and was expecting more from them  Jul 12, 2010
The HD595's are classed as audiophile phones on Sennheiser's website but they're not really. I needed a second pair of good quality phones for my home studio and decided to get these as they were within my budget. I already own a pair of the Sennheisers HD25-1 Mk II which are fantastic and only £20 or so more expensive but I decided on these as I thought the soundstage would be larger due to them being `open' phones.

The first thing I noticed when I plugged them in is that they are rather quiet. It wasn't too much of a problem with my Cowon mp3 player as the volume goes up very high but when I plugged them into my (high end) PC, even the maximum sound level was not loud enough. It seems you'd need an amplifier to get a higher output but at a low 50 ohms, it should not take much at all to push these phones. And strangely, the HD25-1`s are 70 ohms and have no problems being played at a decent volume through my PC or mp3 player.

Secondly, whilst the sound quality is mostly good, I found the mid frequencies rather recessed and that was the deal breaker for me. Instruments that I could hear very clearly through the HD25's sounded muffled and almost nonexistent with these. And to top it off, the soundstage was not better at all, the HD25's also beat them in that department.

The good qualities are the bass which is very clear and well defined and not overly punchy and all other ranges are good but overall they're just not good enough for somebody who considers themself an `audiophile' and who wants to hear all ranges very clearly.

In the end I returned them and bought another pair of the HD25-1 Mk II's as for just a bit extra cash, they offer a far more accurate sound (they are classed as monitor headphones) with a better soundstage and work just fine off your PC or mp3 player.

5AMAZING  Jul 03, 2010
I would just like to let everyone know that I've owned before these the Bose QC 2 (which have since broken) and Sennheiser 280 PRO (which I still like). I can safely say that these are better HANDS DOWN thant both of them.

Sound Quality- These cans sound incredible! They're an open design so you'll be able to hear things around you, and people around will able to hear what you're listening to. That being said, it doesn't usually affect me because I use these for my computer and my Zune HD while I'm on the PC. The Bass is punchy compared to other Sennheiser headphones. I have used these with an amp to compare the difference of them unamped, and what I got was a more immersive, clean sound. Although they preform astoundingly well without an amp, which is what I use them for 95% of the time. I've found mp3 players to be able to handle them fairly well. My Zune can handle these a LOT better than my 280 Pro's. Compared the Bose QC 2's, I've found that these have much clearer highs and more rich mids.

Comfort- These are hands down the most comfortable headphones I've ever used. They honestly melt around your head until you forget about them. The velour ear cups are incredibly soft and don't restrict glasses wearers in the slightest.

Style- They are very light. Almost too light. I fear the plastic construction may be its downfall, so I've been EXTREMELY careful with them.

Overall if you're looking for Audiophile like sound without breaking the bank, these are for you! You won't be disappointed.

3JAH - Just another Headphone  Jun 28, 2010
Style -Good, Comfort - pretty good, your ears still do get warm after wearing these for a while; and finally - the much proclaimed "Sound Quality" -- insert game show BUZZER sound. After reading so many reviews, on so many pairs, I thought these were the it, the lord delivering these upon me for a truly religious sound experience. This was not to be. Sadly, the Bose Around-Ear Headphones that are only 2/3rd the price of these are far superior in sound and bass. That is the issue, there is no bass, and where there is it is "bouncy" sounding. Most of the audio sounds very "bouncy". I tried adjusting the sound card to add more bass as well but in the end I just don't use these for the purposes I purchased them and its too late to return them. If you don't listen to audio with bass, here is your mecca, but for those of us with a variety of musical and gaming audio needs, the sound quality is definitely lacking compared to whats out there- for cheaper. Also another ding is that the 10' cable to connect is on the LEFT ear, so it has to go across your lap to the pc typically located on your right. That seems like a stupid over sight. But they sure look neat :-)
