| | Description | The newly designed AKG legend, K 271 MK II combines the benefits of AKGs circumaural design for extreme comfort and a closed-back design for maximum isolation from ambient noise. Thanks to its XXL transducers, the K 271 MK II sounds clean, smooth and very rich.
The K 271 MK II is the perfect choice for any application where sonic bleed could cause problems such as broadcast work.
Another important feature of the K 271 MK II is the addition of a switch in the headband that mutes the audio just as soon as the headphones are taken off. | |

CLOSED VERSION OF AKG K 240 MK II STUDIO HEADPHONE Jul 02, 2010 Sometimes the people next door make too much noise, thus making it hard to hear music through open back phones at a safe volume level. According to AKG parts lists, the 271 and 240 models use the same superb XXL drivers. The ear cushions are slightly larger on the 271. In addition the 271 has an automatic cut out switch that mutes the phones if you take them off. This feature is vital in studio use but is somewhat annoying for home use. Like the 240, two sets of ear cushions and two cords are included. Cords for the 240 and 271 are interchangeble.
I used no equalizer or tone controls in this listening test.
After a 20 hour break-in, sound is very similar to the 240 studio version, as would be expected. Balance is very natural, like live music, rather than punchy or unnaturally bright. Bass seems more tight and the lowest notes seem more defined than with the K 240 studio phones. Female vocals sound very natural with both model phones, Male vocals sometimes sound a bit thin, especially operatic basses with the K 271 phones. The K 240 phones really shine with bass voices and choral music. Orchestral sound can be thin with the 271, especially when historic instrument recordings are played, On the otherhand, the K 271 studio is superb at cleaning up bass heavy orchestral sound. Having both reduces my desire to buy an equalizer, as most recordings sound ideal on one phone or the other. At this point you may want to read my K240 reviews if you are not familiar with the K 240 phones.
Others feel that the k271 is a best buy in closed back phones, when better sound isolation is needed. I have no reason to doubt this. Sound isolation is not complete, as there is no active noise suppression. Phones with active noise suppression can add distortion, so audio purists should be wary of these.
Like the better known K240, these phones may very well be the most natural sounding closed back phones for voices. Many European studios use the K 240 studio phones when making opera recordings. Results are also excellent for rock voices, Pink Floyd recordings sound great on both.

worth every cent! Jun 28, 2010 i listen to every genre of music, and these are amazing in all fields!
1. sound quality... amazing! good lows, perfect mids, and perfect highs!
2. comfort.... a dream!! i wear my pair for 4 hours straight every day if not more. my ears never even begin to hurt!
3. detachable cord... amazing and nifty!
4. they turn off when you take them off to save speaker and battery life!!! this is remarkable!
i wont buy headphones again unless it's another pair of these.
also, they dont look as awkward in person as they do in the picture. very classic studio cans look.

Great Headphones May 13, 2010 These headphones sound really great. They come with two ear cups, leather and velvet, and also two chords. One chord is very long, too long for something portable like an iPod, and the other is coiled. The coiled chord is still kind of long, but not uncomfortably so. It is kind of annoying though because it is kind of heavy so it does bang around and pull on the headphones a bit. After a few hours of wearing them at a time they don't become uncomfortable. The auto-turnoff feature is kind of a nuisance for me. Sometimes if I turn my head a certain way while wearing them they will turn off. These headphones area also really big in the cups and in the band, which I don't really mind, but others might.
Overall these headphones are definitely worth the money. They sound great and the features are nice.

AKG performance May 07, 2010 plain and simple, useful in all range of music. but if you want bass, i suggest a different choice from AKG. for me, the bass is overall good and the way i like it. as for comfort, i say it needs a little bit tighter on the ends to have a nice surrounding on the ears. i recommend not to wear it around the streets because whenever i wear it, tends to slip and move around a lot while i walk + these are pretty big. one side of the headphone is about the size of a dollar menu burgers, or maybe a little thicker than that. the clarity is just phenomenal ! without these, i wouldn't be able to hear background sounds of live performance songs and that i can even hear other instrumentals that i wouldn't expect.
well i hope this helps you in your decision on buying headphones. best wishes to you all !

Very Neutral Headphones Apr 25, 2010 I like these headphones but I wish there was a just a little more oomph in the low end and I'm someone that doesn't like bass heavy cans.
